SKF thrust ball bearings are designed to accommodate axial loads only and are suitable for high speeds. They consist of a shaft washer, a housing washer, and a ball and cage assembly and can be divided into single direction thrust ball bearings and double direction thrust ball bearings.
Single direction thrust ball bearings can only accommodate axial loads in one direction and have a flat housing washer and a flat shaft washer. Double direction thrust ball bearings can accommodate axial loads in both directions and have a spherical housing washer and a corresponding sphered seat washer on the shaft.
The balls in a thrust ball bearing are arranged in a row and run between the shaft washer and the housing washer, which are separable. The cage separates the balls and maintains the spacing between them, preventing them from colliding with each other.
SKF thrust ball bearings are widely used in various applications such as pumps, compressors, and transmissions where high axial loads are present. They are known for their high load carrying capacity, low friction, and long service life.
